Van Bolt appointed as Interim Grievance Administrator
The Michigan Supreme Court (MSC) has appointed John F. Van Bolt as Interim Grievance Administrator of the Attorney Grievance Commission (AGC).
A past president of the National Council of Lawyer Disciplinary Boards, Van Bolt brings more than 30 years of experience in attorney discipline to the AGC. He will lead the AGC while the MSC undertakes a national search for a permanent Grievance Administrator.
Prior to retiring in 2013, Van Bolt served for more than 25 years as the executive director and general counsel of the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board, the adjudicative arm of the MSC in matters involving the regulation and discipline of Michigan lawyers. Prior to that, Van Bolt investigated and prosecuted charges of attorney misconduct for six years as an associate counsel at the AGC.
MSC is responsible for supervision and discipline of Michigan attorneys; the AGC serves as the prosecution arm of the Court.
Last week, the Supreme Court accepted the recommendation of the AGC that Robert Agacinski, then-Grievance Administrator, be terminated.
