Alliance's forum featuring women candidates takes place June 18

The 21st Century Women's Alliance of Michigan announced that it will host an All Women Candidate Forum which will take place on Wednesday, June 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Bloomfield Township Fire Department Basement Hall. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Invitees include Terri Lynn Land-R, candidate for the U.S. Senate, and Christina Conyers-R, who is currently in active duty for the U.S Air Force, and is running for U.S. Congress for the 14th Congressional District. She is the niece of John Conyers-D. Also invited are all women candidates running for Oakland County Commissioner, the Michigan House of Representatives, as well as Lisa Langton and Karen Geibel, running for the open seat on the Oakland County Circuit Court. The judicial race is non-partisan. To date, ten candidates have confirmed they will attend. The 21st CWAM formed in 2013 in part over concern that there was not enough information available to women about how laws and policies could affect them and their families. The founders were also concerned that despite women comprising 51% of Michigan's population, women in the MI legislature had plummeted to a 20 year low, and is a dismal 18.9%. Out of 148 seats, women hold just 28, ranking it 36th in the country. When 21st CWAM realized how many qualified women were running for office in 2014, it decided that hosting an all women candidate forum would be the perfect opportunity for them to carry out their mission to both educate and inform, as well as engage women in an historic event, introducing them to a number of talented women who may very well be on their way to Lansing to raise that percentage. "I am pleased to be part of the candidate forum to share information about myself and my candidacy, and will demonstrate how hard I am working to earn the voter's trust," said Lisa Langton, candidate for Oakland County Circuit Court. The event is open to the public. Each participating candidate will give a brief synopsis of her qualifications, reasons for running, and goals should she be elected. The candidates will take questions from the audience submitted by index cards. For additional information, visit www.21stwomensalliance.org Published: Thu, Jun 12, 2014
