Two sentenced in Detroit security guard slaying

DETROIT (AP) - Two men will spend between 33 and 60 years in prison for second-degree murder in the shooting death of a 24-year-old security guard as he tried to prevent a carjacking outside a Detroit pharmacy. The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Jeremy Jackson and Jamare Rucker were sentenced Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court. They also were sentenced to 10 to 20 years for armed robbery, which will run concurrently with their murder sentences. Co-defendant Ronnie Anderson-Williams faces an Oct. 1 jury trial on armed robbery, carjacking and weapons charges. Courtney Meeks was shot in the neck in February as he rushed to help a woman being carjacked in the CVS parking lot in northwest Detroit. Published: Thu, Jul 17, 2014
