Prison for man, woman in OD death of girl

HOWELL (AP) - A man and woman have received prison sentences in the overdose death of his 4-year-old niece in a southeastern Michigan home.
A Livingston County circuit judge in Howell last Thursday sentenced 25-year-old Jared K. Brock to 9-30 years in prison and 22-year-old Chelsea L. Marme to 4 years, 5 months to 15 years on manslaughter and child abuse charges. Both pleaded guilty earlier.
They were babysitting Aug. 31, 2013, in Handy Township when Taylor Farr swallowed a Suboxone pill belonging to Brock. Suboxone is used to treat opiate addiction.
Authorities say Brock and Marme failed to take Taylor to a hospital or tell her grandmother what happened.
Before the sentencing, Brock said he misses Taylor "with every breath" he takes. He says "she deserved better" than what he did.
