Southfield mayor to honor six centenarians
SOUTHFIELD (AP) - The mayor of Southfield will honor six people from 101-106 years old in a ceremony at a Southfield senior living community.
Brookdale Senior Living says Mayor Brenda Lawrence will also recognize a Holocaust survivor and a Tuskegee Airman at the Sept. 16 event at The Park at Trowbridge. The independent living facility has about 300 residents.
The six centenarians and the Holocaust survivor will be presented with letters signed by President Barack Obama recognizing their long lives.
The celebration will include entertainment and period dress commemorating the 1920s, '30s and '40s. The community will also host a classic car show.
