Attorneys to present at program on 'Avoiding the Fraud Vortex'
Secrest Wardle attorneys will join the International Association of Special Investigations Units-Michigan Chapter as presenters at "Avoiding the Fraud Vortex."
The program will take place Thursday, Oct. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Schoolcraft College's Vista Tech Center, 18600 Haggerty Rd. in Livonia.
Secrest Wardle Executive Partner Margaret A. Scott will present "Solicitation-Legal Interpretations and Strategies for No-Fault Claims" during the morning session.
Secrest Wardle Partner Terri L. Antisdale will present "Materiality-Case Law Updates and Assigned Claims Plan" during the program's afternoon session where she will discuss the ACP statutory "material misrepresentation" provision and how it differs from the policy provision in application and effect.
Scott served as an Oakland County assistant prosecuting attorney from 1988 to 2008. The majority of her career at the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office was spent as a special prosecutor where she was elevated to the office of chief of the Auto Theft Unit in 1996. As a felony trial prosecutor, Scott prosecuted crimes involving insurance fraud, identity theft, embezzlement, and arson of insured property. During her time with the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office she successfully prosecuted nearly 100% of the cases assigned to the Auto Theft Unit.
Scott obtained her B.A. from Michigan State University in Criminal Justice and Psychology. She received her law degree from Wayne State University Law School and was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1988. She is licensed in all Michigan Courts.
For her dedication to the fight against auto theft and insurance fraud, Scott received the Bob Sattler Award by the North Central Regional Chapter-International Association of Auto Theft Investigators in 2007. She also received an Award for Professional Excellence for services provided to the Michigan State Police characterized by outstanding performance of duty and a personal commitment to the excellence associated with the prosecution of a 1998 Western Wayne Auto Theft Unit investigation. Scott was recently awarded the William V. Liddane Award by the Help Eliminate Auto Theft (H.E.A.T.) Organization in recognition of her advocacy in reducing auto-theft related crimes in Michigan.
Scott is a member of the following associations: North Central Regional Chapter-International Association of Auto Theft Investigators; Michigan Chapter-International Association of Arson Investigators; Michigan Arson Prevention Committee; and Michigan Help Eliminate Auto Theft Committee.
She is past chair of the Michigan Anti-Car Theft Campaign Committee.
Antisdale is an experienced litigator who specializes in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claims as well as Property, Fire and Casualty claims. She is a former Oakland County assistant prosecuting attorney (1996 2008). During her 12 years of service she dedicated the majority of her time prosecuting staged motor vehicle accidents, insurance fraud, arson, and insurance-related violent crimes. For eight of those years she served as a special prosecutor handling cases that included bank robbery and assault with an attempt to commit murder. Her notable number of court successes gained her recognition as a well-seasoned trial attorney.
Antisdale is the recipient of the following awards: Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan's Distinguished Service Award (2002 and 2007); Oakland County Achievement Award (2006 and 2011); Detroit College of Law's Outstanding Law Graduate Award (1996); Wayne County Neighborhood Legal Services/Children's Center for Justice and Peace, Street Law Program Award (1995); and Jurisprudence Achievement Award, Domestic Relations, Detroit College of Law (1995).
Antisdale received her law degree from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University and her Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Michigan University.
