Legal Aid for Children and Families receives grants from foundations

The Legal Aid for Children and Families (LACF) program at Beaumont Children's Hospital has received a $15,000 grant from the Oakland County Bar Foundation (OCBF) and will receive a $15,000 matching grant from the Beaumont Foundation. This is the fifth year that OCBF has supported LACF. "The assistance you provide families during a very stressful time in their life is irreplaceable," OCBF President Eric J. Pelton said in a letter to Karen Glorio Luther, the program's director. "The training you provide Beaumont staff and the OUWB [Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine] extern on identifying medical-legal issues is a benefit that can hopefully be duplicated in other area hospitals. Without your service the county would be at a huge loss." Beaumont Hospitals formed LACF in 2009 in collaboration with Legal Aid and Defender Association Inc. (LAD) to improve the health and welfare of low-income children and their families by addressing the underlying causes of poor health among children. LAD provides legal services to eligible children and family members free of charge. For further information, visit LACF's website at http://www.beaumontchildrenshospital.com/legal-aid. Beaumont Children's Hospital (http://www.beaumontchildrenshospital.com/) provides advanced care for "young patients from the smallest infants to growing teenagers from across Southeast Michigan and around the world more than 100,000 times every year. As part of Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, our comprehensive health services and expertise span nearly every medical and surgical subspecialty." Published: Tue, Sep 16, 2014
