Michigan motorists urged to watch for deer
DEARBORN (AP) - Michigan motorists are being encouraged to keep an eye out for deer as the state's firearms deer hunting season approaches.
AAA Michigan says one in every five motor vehicle crashes in Michigan involves deer and November is among the top months for such crashes. Last year, the auto club says 12 motorists were killed and another 1,200 injured in crashes involving deer.
In 2013, there were more than 49,000 such crashes. Oakland County had the most, with 1,800 crashes reported.
AAA and the Michigan Deer Crash Coalition are teaming up on safety education efforts. The coalition recently unveiled a video aimed at young people. The "Don't Veer for Deer" video was distributed to driver education programs throughout the state.
The annual firearms deer hunting season starts Saturday.
