$47.6M spent on TV ads in Michigan governor's race

LANSING (AP) - A campaign finance watchdog says $47.6 million was spent on TV ads in the Michigan governor's race.
The Michigan Campaign Finance Network says Democratic challenger Mark Schauer's campaign and his allies spent $3.3 million airing ads. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder's successful re-election campaign and his allies spent $7.7 million.
The biggest spenders were the Democratic Governors Association, at $15.4 million, and the Republican Governors Association, at $10.4 million.
The Michigan Campaign Finance Network says the $36.6 million spent on TV ads by outside groups was about double the previous record of $18 million spent in the 2006 campaign between Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Republican Dick DeVos.
The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News report the $47.6 million was second to the $54 million spent in the 2006 race.
