Mich. January jobless rate little changed at 6.3%

LANSING (AP) - The state says Michigan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.3 percent in January, little changed over one month but part of an overall steady decline.

The state Department of Technology, Management & Budget announced January's job figures on Wednesday. The rate compares with December's 6.4 percent, which was revised down by one-tenth of a percentage point.

Michigan's unemployment rate still tops the national rate, which was 5.7 percent in January.

The agency says the number of people working in Michigan rose by 22,000, while the number of unemployed people fell 8,000.

The state also says the 2014 unemployment rate dropped for the fifth consecutive year and payroll jobs rose for the fourth straight year.
