The ADR Section of the State Bar of Michigan is proud to announce an exciting new Lunch and Learn telephone seminar on Tuesday, April 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. featuring Zenell Brown, leading expert in the field of mediating cases for families in conflict who have never been married.
Family lawyers and practitioners can expect to see an increase in child support and parent time disputes among never married parents as society continues to move away from marriage. The Lunch and Learn will discuss the need for early stage non-court based mediation as a way resolve these disputes keep fathers emotionally and financially engaged.
Brown, Wayne County Circuit Court executive court administrator, has been engaged with this issue for many years and brings a unique perspective, helpful hints, and important insights to share.
Brown joined the Wayne County Circuit Court in 1997 and became the executive court administrator on January 1, 2014. She worked with SCAO to create a Domestic Relations Mediation Training, which included components addressing the particular needs of never married parents. Brown is a SCAO approved trainer, assisting Zena Zumeta as a co-trainer and coach in conducting a summer mediation training to never married service providers. She recently co-presented “As the Word Turns” at the annual conference of the Association of Conflict Resolution, sharing insights on mediating for non-traditional families.
Zena D. Zumeta, of Mediation Training & Consulting Institute, will moderate the seminar. Internationally known as both a mediator and trainer of mediators, Zumeta is president of the Mediation Training & Consultation Institute, Zena Zumeta Mediation Services, and The Collaborative Workplace in Ann Arbor. She has been providing mediation services since 1981. Zumeta is an approved civil and family mediator in Michigan, and an approved mediation trainer for Michigan and many other states. She is the recipient of the Family Mediation Council-Michigan Lifetime Achievement in Mediation Award; the National Education Association/Saturn Corporation Award for Union-Management Collaboration; the John Haynes Distinguished Mediator Award from ACR; and the Kumba Award from the National Conference on Minorities in ADR.
Cost for the Lunch and Learn telephone seminar is $10 for ADR section members and $40 for non-members.
