DOUGLAS, Mich. (AP) - The National Register of Historic Places has four newly designated sites in Michigan.
The State Historic Preservation Office says the recent additions include a 26-foot, iron-hulled Francis metallic surfboat in the Lake Michigan community of Douglas. It's believed to date back to the 1850s and is an example of an early rescue craft used on the Great Lakes.
Other additions include the nearly century-old King Solomon Baptist Church in Detroit where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X both spoke; the Beardsley House in Branch County's Bronson Township; and the Otsego Hotel in Jackson.
Meanwhile, the State Historic Preservation Review Board approved the nomination of three sites for National Register consideration. They are Swayze Apartments in Flint, the Blissfield Downtown Historic District, and Holy Family Orphanage in Marquette.
