NALS of Michigan, an association for legal support professionals, held its summer educational conference and board of directors meeting on June 13, at Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith PC in Lansing.
The guest speaker was Mark C. Bishop, Strategic Partnership Coordinator for the Community Relations Division of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. He discussed police and community relations, what Michigan is doing to deal with complaints, how Michigan is working to prevent and avoid situations such as those in Ferguson and Baltimore, and what community members can do.
In a second educational session NALS of Michigan President Vicki Ballinger and Kimberly Hafley, Director of Marketing for Foster Swift, discussed how to market the association and chapters; and NALS of Michigan Vice President Diane Berry discussed how to share the benefits of membership with others.
Four NALS members recently achieved Accredited Legal Professional (ALP) certification: Kathryn Green, NALS of Lansing; Kelly Flatt, Troy McCabe, and Stephanie Stites, NALS of West Michigan; and Brian Thompson, NALS of Greater Kalamazoo.
Karen Grant, Maureen Jones and Jessica Schimpf, all from the Grand Traverse Area Legal Professionals, recently attained Professional Legal Secretary (PLS) certification.
