The Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA) New Lawyers Committee (NLC) hosted its 16th Annual Tigers Outing on Friday, June 12, at Comerica Park. Prior to the game between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians, the committee presented a check to Pets for Vets which was the NLC’s selected charity this year. Funds were raised from committee events such as the Summer Splash, Novemberfest, Board of Directors Fowling Challenge, and Meet the Judges Party/Silent Auction. Taking part in the on-field check presentation before the first pitch were (left to right) OCBA Secretary Jim Parks of Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss PC; NLC Chair Syeda Davidson of Burgess, Sharp, & Golden PLLC; NLC Chair-Elect Vicki King of Oakland County Circuit Court; Jeff Bagalis of Stout, Risius, Ross; and Laurie Carr, Kellie Smith, and Sandra McDonald representing Pets for Vets. Pets for Vets helps heal the emotional wounds of military veterans by paring them with a shelter dog that is specially selected to match his or her personality. Professional animal trainers rehabilitate the dogs and teach them good manners to fit into the veteran’s lifestyle. Training can also include desensitization to wheelchairs or crutches as well as recognizing panic or anxiety disorder behaviors.
