Task force seeks public input to address opioid, prescription drug abuse

Lt. Gov. Brian Calley last week announced that the Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse Task Force is seeking public input on how the state can address challenges associated with prescription drug and opioid abuse.

“We are eager to hear the ideas and thoughts of our state’s concerned residents in order to develop a more effective strategy to address this critical issue,” Calley said.

The task force, created by Gov. Rick Snyder in June and chaired by Calley, is reviewing current practices and previous reports regarding prescription drug and opioid abuse in Michigan. Snyder has requested recommendations for a comprehensive strategy, and the task force is interested in gathering public and stakeholder opinions on additional concerns that need to be addressed.

The public hearing will take place in Lansing on Tuesday, July 21, at the Michigan State Capitol in the House Appropriations Committee Room from 5 to 7 p.m. Indicate via phone or email for anyone if special accommodations to attend the meeting are necessary.

Those who cannot attend can also submit written testimony to the task force.
