Oakland Mediation Center (OMC), an Oakland County based non-profit organization, will host two trainings for mediators at its Bloomfield Hills office. A 40-Hour Domestic Relations Mediation Training will start in September and an 8-Hour Advanced Mediation Training “Mediator Wisdom: Reflections, Imitation and Experience” will be offered December 3.
These trainings will focus on facilitation, problem solving, and de-escalation skills of a mediator that are easily transferable to any individual who facilitates meetings and group discussions or is responsible for addressing conflicts with-in their organization. Mediation training enhances participants’ skill sets and marketability, allows those involved to be eligible for the Michigan court roster list of approved mediators, and improves communication and negotiating skills personally and professionally.
The “40-Hour Domestic Relations Mediation Training” will teach participants the skills necessary to act as mediators in facilitating the resolution of domestic relations disputes from the initial consultation to writing the mediation agreement. OMC’s upcoming training will be conducted September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, and 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Cost for the training is $1,390 and includes the new State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) required 8-Hour Domestic Violence Screening Training for mediators. Participants can receive $200 off the training fee if they register by August 11.
The 8-Hour Advanced Mediation Training “Mediator Wisdom: Reflections, Imitation and Experience” is a highly reflective and experiential advanced mediation training and is appropriate for any mediator regardless of practice focus or style. Through mediation role-plays participants will utilize facilitated reflection to capture learning moments, learn new skills and techniques from observing their peers, and gain hands-on mediation experience as they take the lead in mediating mock disputes. Facilitated by seasoned mediator and trainer Kenzi Bisbing, this training will be offered on December 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost for the training is $295.
“OMC trainings are great for content but also for the excellent mediation and facilitation techniques modeled by the presenters,” stated Bonnie Hanes, executive director of Oakland Mediation Center. “People will be blown away with the knowledge and skills learned at OMC’s trainings.”
OMC’s trainings are approved by SCAO and are designed to be highly interactive and skill based. The trainings take place at the Oakland Mediation Center in Bloomfield Hills and include continental breakfast, lunch, snacks and course materials. For additional information about the trainings, contact the Oakland Mediation Center training department at 248-338-4280, ext. 216.
