Speakers to share corporate counsel expertise, October 29

Four attorneys will talk about being corporate counsel Thursday, Oct. 29, as part of the Wayne State University Law School Alumni Speakers Series.


The event will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall 2242 of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at the law school, 471 W. Palmer St. The event is free, and lunch will be provided. Parking is available for $7 (credit and debit cards only) in Structure One across West Palmer Street from the law school. Register at law.wayne.edu/alumnispeakers2015.
Panelists who will share their experiences and advice are:

• Timothy Guerriero, Wayne Law class of 1980. He retired from TI Automotive Ltd. in 2014 after serving for 15 years as general counsel and company secretary. He is an adjunct professor at Wayne Law. Guerriero has legal and management experience in business acquisition and disposal transactions, corporate governance, insurance and risk management, intellectual property matters, international trade and legal compliance. He served as a director of the Association of Corporate Counsel-Americas, Michigan Chapter, and was a founding member of the Legal Issues Council of the Original Equipment Suppliers Association.
 
• Terrence “Terry” Larkin, Wayne Law class of 1979, executive vice president, business development, general counsel and corporate secretary of Lear Corp., a position he has held since November 2011. In this position, Larkin is responsible for Lear’s business development and legal and regulatory matters globally. In addition, Larkin oversees Lear’s internal audit and compliance functions. While at Wayne Law, he served as editor of the Wayne Law Review. He is a member of the board of directors of Kelly Services Inc., LifeTerry Larkin Directions and Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce. Larkin is also a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.
 
• Aleksandra Miziolek, Wayne Law class of 1980, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary for Cooper Standard Automotive Inc. Previously, she served as director of the automotive industry group of Dykema Gossett PLLC and on Dykema’s executive board and as the director of its business services department. She joined Dykema in 1982 after working as a law clerk for a federal court judge in the Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division.
 
• Amy Peterson, associate counsel for the Detroit Tigers and co-founder and CEO of Rebel Nell, a jewelry-making business started with the purpose of employing, educating and empowering disadvantaged women in Detroit. Peterson earned her law degree from New England School of Law and her master of business administration degree from Suffolk University’s Sawyer School of Management.
 
The Alumni Speaker Series is a part of Wayne Law’s efforts to link alumni with students to build professional connections.
