WESTLAND (AP) - A southeastern Michigan woman will spend 25 to 50 years in prison for a hit-and-run crash that killed an 8-year-old boy.
Judge Mark Slavens sentenced Kimberly Garrett Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court for second-degree murder.
Garrett also was sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death.
Prosecutors say Garrett used heroin, cocaine and Xanax before Kayale Fruge was struck June 20 while riding his bike in Westland.
Another motorist called 911 and followed the vehicle that struck the boy to a home in Romulus where Garrett was arrested.
