Oakland County residents save over $2.6M in prescription costs

On April 13, 2013, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners introduced the Coast2Coast RX Card Program to Oakland County residents. Since its inception, a little more than two-years ago, residents have saved in total $2,667,449.94 in prescription costs. To date, the partnership between the Oakland County Board of Commissioners and Coast2CoastRx has attracted 7,649 prescription card users.

“We are pleased with the positive impact the Coast2CoastRx program has made with our residents and for our County,” said Michael J. Gingell, chairman of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, “We anticipate that the success of the program will expand as more people become aware of the potential benefits that are available to them.”

The Coast2CoastRx program allows all consumers, regardless of income, age, or health status to participate in the program and save on medication costs. When the card is used, cardholders on average save 68% on their prescriptions in Oakland County. Oakland County residents have saved $882,699.08 this year.

The benefits of the program include dental, vision, veterinary and hearing services, lab work and imaging services, diabetes supplies and equipment as well as veterinary prescriptions is made more affordable to residents and their families as a result of the program. Cards are available for residents to pick up at the Oakland County Research Library, Treasurer’s lobby and County Clerk’s E-Services lobby, located at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac.

The prescription discount card can be downloaded at www.oakgov.com/boc and at www.coast2coastrx.com/counties/mi/oakland. Another way to obtain a card is to call 1-800-931-8872.

Coast2Coastrx Card program’s Chief Marketing Officer, Martin Dettelbach stated, “Our program will continue to thrive within Oakland County, which prides itself on providing programs that enrich the lives of its residents, including assisting its families with beneficial discounts on health related needs. Oakland County has the distinction of being the first Michigan county to endorse the program and is a part of a nationwide discount prescription card program that services over 450 cities, counties, and townships across the country. The Rx card is distributed free of charge and may be used at all pharmacy chains and most independent pharmacies in Michigan. The program includes over 60,000 drugs in its formulary.  The prescription cards are written in  both the English and Spanish languages.
