On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted veteran Commissioner Michael Spisz as vice chairman at a special board meeting.
Spisz is a Republican who represents the communities of Addison Township, Brandon Township, Oakland Township, Oxford Township, Ortonville Village, Leonard Village and Oxford Village in District 3. He will replace former Vice Chairman Jeff Matis, who was recently appointed to the Oakland County Sixth Circuit Court as a Judge.
Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell stated, “I look forward to working with Commissioner Spisz in his role as vice chairman. Mike has been a great leader on the board and will continue to do so as the vice chairman.”
Spisz has served on the Oakland County Human Resources Committee as chairperson and will become vice chairperson of the committee. He is currently vice chairperson of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Public Services Committee and was a member of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ General Government Committee.
In 2013, Spisz was elected to the Michigan Association of Counties At-Large Board, where he currently serves a three-year term. He is also a member of the Oakland County Substance Abuse Board and serves as the Oakland County TIFA vice chairperson.
“I am truly honored to have been selected by my colleagues to fill this very important role. I look forward to continuing to work closely with all of them as we move Oakland County forward,” stated Spisz.
Spisz is currently the director of engineering for a Tier-1 Automotive Supplier. He has worked more than 20 years in the automotive industry. He is a graduate of GMI/Kettering University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and has a Masters in Business Administration from Davenport University.
