Communities get share of $1.3 million for outdoor recreation

LANSING (AP) - Michigan says 33 communities will share more than $1.3 million in grants funded by the sale of the annual pass for access to state parks and recreation areas.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources recently announced recipients of Recreation Passport grants.

Grant applicants sought funding for a broad range of public outdoor recreation projects, including playground development and renovations, dog park improvements, ice-skating rink development, trail and walkway development and park and picnic area improvements.

A list of grant recipients and projects is posted on the state's website. Application materials for future Recreation Passport grants will be posted online at www.michigan.gov/dnr-grants.

The Recreation Passport is an $11 annual pass that allows vehicles to enter state parks and recreation areas throughout Michigan.
