The Oakland County Bar Association New Lawyers Basic Skills Seminar Series “Introduction to Practice” began Thursday, Jan. 7, at the Oakland County Bar Center in Bloomfield Hills. Among those leading the seminar on the topic of “District Court” were (left to right) Stanley Wise of Wise & Wise PLC, Oakland County 47th District Court Judge Marla Parker, and Farmington Hills attorney Barry Brickner. Attendees heard about civil infractions, misdemeanors, and civil procedure; court appointment procedures; foreclosures; and landlord/tenant issues. “This is probably about our 20th year that we have done this—what we call our ‘Basic Skills’ program,” said Wise on behalf of the Professional Development Committee. “This is the ‘District Court’ portion of this and every year since we have been doing this, both Judge Parker and Mr. Brickner have been our panelists and have made this thing go.”
