SOUTHFIELD (AP) - Two affordable housing developments in suburban Detroit are getting a $19.8 million overhaul.
McDonnell Tower Apartments and the tower and townhomes at River Park Place in Southfield are being upgraded as part of the effort.
The Southfield Nonprofit Housing Corporation and Southfield-based Larc Community Development Group worked to secure Michigan State Housing Development Authority tax credit financing and a construction loan to renovate the housing developments.
In addition to exterior and interior renovations, upgrades to improve energy efficiency are expected to lower residents' monthly utility costs.
McDonnell Tower Apartments is an 11-story building that includes 162 units for those ages 62 and older. The River Park Place Apartment complex offers 245 rental housing units, including 182 units for those 62 and older and eight family townhomes.
