CLARKSTON (AP) - A former credit union official who told Oakland County authorities that he embezzled millions of dollars has been found competent to understand the charges against him and assist his lawyer.
The Livingston Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports that Michael LaJoice is due back in court March 22 for a probable-cause conference.
A mental exam requested by LaJoice's lawyer was performed by a state psychologist.
LaJoice was chief financial officer at Clarkston Brandon Community Credit Union. The Oakland County sheriff's office says he stepped forward and said he stole $20 million over 12 years.
LaJoice owns a dance studio in Fenton and put millions of dollars into his home. His lifestyle didn't appear to match his $65,000-a-year salary.
