The Seventh Annual Kaye Tertzag Tribute Dinner was hosted on Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Park Place Banquet Hall in Dearborn. The 2016 recipient of the Purple Sport Coat Award was attorney Dana Nessel (right) who assembled the team of attorneys who initiated the DeBoer v. Snyder case in 2012 challenging Michigan’s ban on same-sex second party adoption. DeBoer was later consolidated with its affiliated Sixth Circuit cases into the Obergefell v. Hodges case, the landmark case that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. Happy to congratulate Nessel was attorney Kara Tertzag Lividini (left) of Ford Motor Company. The dinner and award are meant to honor retired Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Kaye “Chach” Tertzag who died Feb. 4, 2009. His words to attorneys coming before the bench were “Be Prompt. Be Prepared. Be Polite.” His parting words to all were “Be well.” Judge Tertzag was known to wear colorful sport coats and ties, though often hidden under his robe. One of his favorites was his purple Armani.
