The Oakland County Family-Focused Juvenile Drug Court presented “Self-Exploration Through Art” on Tuesday, March 8, on the second floor of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court in Pontiac. Works of art created by Juvenile Drug Court participants were unveiled for the first time at this event. Among the art afficionados enjoying the display were (left to right) Oakland County Circuit Court Chief Judge Nanci Grant, Marty Alvin of Oakland County Family Court, and Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Mary Ellen Brennan who provided remarks at the event. “This is one of our favorite evenings because we get to see the product of a lot of work that the young people have done in terms of their recovery,” Brennan said. “It isn’t about the finished artwork but that’s kind of a nice byproduct that we get to enjoy tonight and spend some time with their families.” The Juvenile Drug Court program is designed to address the problem of substance abuse for eligible youth in the Oakland County juvenile justice system. Participants of the Juvenile Drug Court took part in a seven-week art therapy program designed to provide insight into the therapeutic aspects of art as a means of self-exploration.
