ALLEGAN, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Supreme Court is interested in a dispute over a $300,000 inheritance in western Michigan.
John Cliffman didn't have a will in 2012 when he died in a car accident. An Allegan County judge said his two sisters were entitled to a $300,000 wrongful-death settlement with an insurance company. The Michigan appeals court agreed.
But that decision is being challenged by Cliffman's stepsons. Their mother was married to Cliffman until she died in 1996.
The Supreme Court says it will hear arguments in the months ahead about whether to accept a full appeal or take other action. A key issue is whether a 2003 decision cited by the appeals court should be overruled.
