The Oakland County Board of Commissioners announces a special budget presentation by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson scheduled for Wednesday, July 20, beginning at 7 p.m. The evening meeting will be held in the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Auditorium, located at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac.
Oakland County residents will have the opportunity to hear Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson present the recommended triennial budget for the next three years for Fiscal Years 2017, 2018 and 2019 with a summarized forecast for the next five years.
The Total General Fund/General Purpose Estimated Revenue and Appropriations are balanced at $443,244,156 for Fiscal Year 2017; $450,332,208 for Fiscal Year 2018 and $454,141,372 for Fiscal Year 2019.
Total budget for all funds are $854,331,857 for Fiscal Year 2017; $859,121,765 for Fiscal Year 2018; and $860,561,195 for Fiscal Year 2019.
“I am looking forward to hosting our County Executive L. Brooks Patterson as he presents the 2017-2020 budgets. I am anticipating continued financial discipline while we increase investment in our people, assets and infrastructure,” stated Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell.
Oakland County Commissioner David Woodward, who serves as the Finance Committee’s minority vice chairperson, stated, “The budget process is the time to decide funding priorities for the things that improve both health and economic opportunity for working families, seniors, and kids in Oakland County.”

Following the budget presentation, a series of Finance Committee budget hearings are scheduled in August with county departments below appearing before the committee at 10 a.m. on these dates in Committee Room A.

“The budget hearings and commission consideration are the culmination of an ongoing process throughout the year. We have a history of working with the administration and across party lines to adopt a sound fiscal plan and make wise choices for the long-term health of our county. I am looking forward to continuing this tradition this year’ as the Finance Committee finalizes our three-year rolling balanced budget. In August we will begin budget hearings, and continue to do our due diligence as this is one of the most important and demanding committee tasks that we are responsible for as commissioners,” stated Oakland County Board Finance Chairperson Thomas F. Middleton.
The nine member Finance Committee is led by Oakland County Commissioner Thomas F. Middleton (R), who serves as the finance chairperson and includes Commissioner Eileen T. Kowall (R), who serves as the finance majority vice chairperson, and Commissioner David Woodward (D), who serves as the finance minority vice chairperson. The committee also consists of Commissioners Christine A. Long (R), Shelley Goodman Taub (R), Hugh D. Crawford (R), Board Vice Chairperson Michael Spisz (R), Nancy L. Quarles (D), and Helaine M. Zack (D).
The Finance Committee reviews and makes recommendations on the more than $800 million budget and all fiscal matters that come before the Oakland County.
Oakland County Finance Committee’s Minority Vice-Chairperson David Woodward, stated, “This budget process is an opportunity to discuss and hopefully decide to fund the priorities that improve the safety and lives of the working families in Oakland County.”
