Oakland County Commissioner Shelley Goodman Taub (R-Bloomfield Township) was sworn-in as the new president of the Michigan Association of Counties (MAC) Board of Directors by her son, attorney Adam Taub, at the Annual MAC Legislative Conference in Boyne Mountain on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Taub was unanimously appointed by the MAC Board, consisting of 16 county commissioners from across Michigan. In her new leadership role, she will work closely with the board to set all policies for the organization, serving 83 counties and representing more than 622 elected county commissioners.
MAC is the only statewide organization that is dedicated to the representation of all county commissioners in Michigan. MAC is a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization that advances education, communication and cooperation among county government officials in Michigan.
Upon assuming her duties as head of the MAC Board, Taub stressed the importance of allowing county and local governments the flexibility to seek solution that work well in their communities, “The federal and state governments must move away from adopting mandates with a ‘one size fits all’ mindset. County and local officials are closest to the people and can often find innovative solutions that work best in their communities to solve problems. We need to work together as county officials to ensure this message is heard.”
Oakland County leaders congratulated Taub and expressed their confidence in her leadership upon taking the new role.
“There are few as qualified as Commissioner Taub to lead MAC. She demonstrates her leadership time and again on the Board of Commissioners and works well with my administration,” stated Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.
“I want to congratulate Commissioner Taub for being selected as the next president of MAC. This is a great accomplishment and is an acknowledgement of her years of public policy experience, hard work and commitment to public service,” stated Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell.
Taub is a Republican and longtime resident of Bloomfield Township. She serves in District #12 and represents the communities of Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills and Bloomfield Township. Taub is serving her fourth-consecutive-term as an Oakland County Commissioner and is a member of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Finance Committee. She also serves as vice chairperson of the Oakland County General Government Committee. She was recently recognized nationally in Governing Magazine as a member of the Governing Institute’s Women in Government Leadership Class of 2016.
In addition, Oakland County Commissioner Hugh D. Crawford (R-Novi) was elected to the Board of Directors of MAC at the Annual MAC Legislative Conference on Sept. 17. Crawford was elected by his fellow county commissioners throughout Michigan to serve as an At-Large Board Member for a three-year term.
“I am eager to take on this new role advocating for county governments throughout our state. I hope to bring valuable experience and a unique perspective having served as a state legislator that will help MAC effectively make their case with federal and state officials,” stated Crawford.
Oakland County leaders congratulated Crawford and expressed their confidence in his leadership upon taking the new role.
“A hearty congratulations to Commissioner Crawford on his recent appointment,” stated Patterson.
“I am proud of Commissioner Crawford for his appointment at MAC. His involvement and leadership position will help to provide good policy within MAC, which will be good for Oakland County,” stated Gingell.
