Secrest Wardle Partner Dan Rizzo (left), of the firm’s Troy location, recently took the task of delivering the game ball to Redford Union’s Hilbert Middle School football team to new heights. Rizzo skydived onto Kraft Field from 3,500 feet to deliver the ball to Captain Jawan Mitchell (right). Rizzo’s wife, Pam, teaches math at Hilbert. They came up with the idea to do something unique for the students. Mrs. Rizzo presented the idea to Hilbert Principal Andy Christopherson (center), who was on board with the idea. Once the FAA and the Federal Department of Homeland Security gave their approval, the mission was scheduled. Dan Rizzo has been skydiving for 11 years and is a certified instructor. Additionally, Rizzo has possessed a professional rating for the past four years, which is required to make skydives into small sports fields such as this one. He has completed nearly 2,000 dives. Rizzo enjoys taking a break from practicing law to skydive, an endeavor he finds very relaxing. He said, “There is nothing else like freefall and piloting a canopy. It is an entirely unique experience. I can’t think of a better way to spend a sunny summer day.”
