MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) - A suburban Detroit man accused of strangling his wife and burying the body 220 miles away has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Loyd Dejohn was convicted of first-degree murder last month. The body of 51-year-old Kimberly Dejohn was found in June 2014 partially buried in Cheboygan County's Koehler Township.
Loyd Dejohn didn't speak during last Thursday's sentencing. His attorney, Mark Nortley, maintains his client was remorseful and Kimberly Dejohn's death was not planned.
Macomb County prosecutors argued that Loyd Dejohn killed his wife because he was in a relationship with a cousin about half his age.
Kimberly Dejohn was reported missing in May 2014 by her family. Her body was found weeks later, bound and covered with tarps and a ceiling fan motor and blades.
