Center honors judge and wife

A crowd of more than 1,200 turned out October 30 at the Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield to honor U.S. District Court Judge Bernard Friedman (left) and his wife Rozanne (center) at the 32nd Anniversary Dinner for the Holocaust Memorial Center. The Friedmans, pictured with HMC President Gary Karp (right), were saluted for their “dedication to our shared ideals of standing up for equality and fighting against oppression,” according to Karp. Judge Friedman has been a member of the federal bench since 1988 and formerly served as chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Raised in West Virginia, Rozanne Friedman began her career in teaching before becoming a psychologist. As strong supporters of the HMC, the Friedmans said in a prepared statement: “The lessons taught at the Holocaust Memorial Center strike at both of our core values so deeply.  We want to do everything in our power to ensure the Holocaust is remembered, talked about, and, most importantly, never happens again.”
