The Oakland County Bar Association’s Providing Access to Legal Services Committee will host “The People’s Law College” on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Ferndale Public Library.
This annual event is geared toward members of the community. Attorneys will discuss different areas of the law and assist attendees in finding answers to their legal questions. There will be three seminar sessions with two running simultaneously.
Attendees will begin their evening with a seminar by Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner. “Property Taxes – What to do if you cannot pay?” will cover property owners’ tax responsibilities and how to prevent mortgage and tax foreclosures. This seminar will run from 6 to 6:55 p.m.
Attendees will then choose from two break-out sessions during the second hour of the evening: “Anatomy of a Divorce,” an explanation of the rights and responsibilities of each party in a divorce with attorney Kelly Bidelman of Legal Aid and Defender Association of Oakland County; and “Employment Issues: Know Your Rights” with Syeda Davidson of Burgess, Sharp, & Golden PLLC. These seminars run from 7 to 7:55 p.m.
Participants will also have an opportunity to talk one-on-one with an attorney and receive brief advice and counsel throughout the evening.
This is a free event but seating is limited. Register online by visiting www.ocba.org. The Ferndale Public Library is located at 222 E. Nine Mile Rd. in Ferndale.
