Nadia Maraachli earned her undergraduate degree in anthropology from Wayne State University, before heading to University of Detroit Mercy School of Law where she is in her 3L year.
“I enjoy researching and writing and wanted a career that valued those skills,” she says. “I enjoy the relationships I’ve built with faculty and my classmates. The faculty here truly cares about the students and their success. I also love the law school’s location because it makes going to the different courthouses an easy task. I like the strong sense of community we have among current students and alumni.”
Maraachli has served as editor-in-chief of the school’s Law Review since last April.
“It’s an honor,” she says. “I enjoy working with the executive board setting Law Review policy, editing articles—a favorite task of mine—and sending to print issues that we are proud of.”
She also has enjoyed working with Symposium Director Erin Cobane in planning the annual Symposium set for March 3. This year’s event will feature legal professionals and scholars from across the country to discuss the
American Bar Association's implementation of Standards 314 and 315, which deal with formative assessments in law school classrooms.
Maraachli spent the last summer working for Hazel Park City Attorney Janet S. Drumm.
“I live in Hazel Park and I wanted to better understand the issues our residents face and all the good things happening here,” she says.
A 2015 internship in the chambers of U.S. District Court Judge Marianne O. Battani, Eastern District of Michigan, provided the opportunity to work closely with, and learn a great deal from, the jurist and her clerks.
“Writing bench memos and drafting opinions allowed me to do what I love—research and write,” Maraachli says. “My experiences solidified my dream to clerk for a federal judge.”
She will achieve that dream in September, when she begins a two-year term as a law clerk working for Stephanie Dawkins Davis, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan in Flint.
Maraachli, who grew up in Dearborn Heights and attended Dearborn Public Schools, moved to Hazel Park in Oakland County in 2011 and has lived there ever since.
A self-termed “ice hockey fanatic,” she loves to watch, coach, and play the sport.
“My true passion is goaltending, but I’ll take whatever position I can get,” she says. “I also enjoy reading fiction, especially historical fiction.”
