The Oakland County Bar Association continued the winter semester of OCBA U, its continuing professional development program, with a series of seminars called “Court Rules” that focus on effective trial practice in Oakland County. Classes were presented Thursday, Feb. 9, at the OCBA offices in Bloomfield Hills. Speaking on Oakland County Circuit Court—Criminal Cases were (seated, left to right) Oakland County Circuit Court Judges Michael Warren, Hala Jarbou, and Leo Bowman; along with (standing, left to right) attorneys Victoria King of Oakland County Circuit Court, and Randy Secontine of Law Office of J. Randall Secontine PLLC. Each “Court Rules” seminar focuses on a different Oakland County court. Judicial staff attorneys lead off each seminar with an overview of pretrial matters and effective motion practice. The second part of each seminar consists of a moderated panel of sitting judges discussing best practices in oral advocacy and the dos and don’ts of practicing in their courtrooms. The next seminar will take place March 2 and will focus on Oakland County Family Court.
