The Jackson Police Department announced that Officer Richard Burkart was promoted from the rank of patrol officer to detective effective Feb. 13.
A nine-year veteran trained in a wide variety of police related fields, Burkart served as a patrol officer, a field training officer, a defensive tactics instructor, and is a current member of the Jackson Special Response Team.
He was most recently assigned to the Jackson Narcotics Enforcement Team (JNET) where he specialized in controlled substance investigations.
In 2015 he was the Jackson Police Department’s Officer of the Year.
“Rick’s experience as a patrol officer and time spent at JNET will serve him well in beginning his new assignment as a detective. I am confident Rick will serve the community with the highest level of professionalism and dedication that citizens deserve,” said Interim Director Elmer Hitt.
