The Salvation Army William Booth Legal Aid Clinic, in coordination with the Wayne County Friend of the Court, will conduct a Free Child Support Help Program. The event will be held on Saturday, April 8, at the Detroit Public Library, 5201 Woodward Ave., in the Friends Auditorium from 1 to 4 p.m.
There will be a brief presentation about the Arrears Forgiveness Program for State Owed Arrearage.
Child support professionals will be on site to sign up qualifying parents. The program will also feature the Friend of the Court “Bench Warrant Amnesty Program.” Individuals with bench warrants due to unpaid child support in Wayne County may come in to resolve their civil warrants without facing arrest.
This will be an arrest free zone. Individuals must bring $500 per warrant, valid photo ID, and proof of income or hardship. This does not apply to felony non-support warrants.
Attendees will have the chance to meet one-on-one with volunteer family law attorneys. These attorneys will assist in completing motion packets and provide some legal direction on child support, parenting time, and custody issues. This program is one in a series of free child support help programs supported by community service agencies including Wayne County Head Start, Detroit Head Start Fatherhood Initiative, Wayne County Friend of the Court, Focus: HOPE, Wayne County Mediation Center, Young Fathers Standing United, MI Self-Help Legal, Americare Free Cell Phones, Goodwill Flip the Script, and many more.
