Lakeshore Bar Association to look at abusive debt collection practices

Companies that buy debt for the purpose of suing to collect the debt rank as the single largest classification of litigants in Michigan. Thousands of debt collection lawsuits are filed in Michigan each year.

Unfortunately, too many debt collectors engage in harassing and abusive practices. Helping clients avoid that harassment and abuse and guiding them through the debt collection process to achieve the best possible outcome is the subject of a presentation by the Lakeshore Bar Association.

The program begins with food and beverages at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at City Kitchen restaurant located at 16844 Kercheval in Grosse Pointe. The presentation begins at 6:30.

The presenters are Sean R. O’Mara of the O’Mara Law Firm and David S. Parnell of the Parnell Law Firm. Both are experienced and highly regarded consumer advocates in the field of debt collection.

The program is free for Lakeshore Bar Association members. The charge for non members is $10.
