The Oakland County Bar Association concluded the winter semester of OCBA U, its continuing professional development program that featured a series of seminars called “Court Rules” which focused on effective trial practice in Oakland County. The final class of the semester was presented Thursday, April 13, at the OCBA offices in Bloomfield Hills. Speaking on probate court were (seated, left to right) the Oakland County Probate Court’s Chief Judge Linda Hallmark, Judge Daniel A. O’Brien, and Judge Jennifer Callaghan; along with (standing, left to right) Chiara Mattieson of Prince Law Firm and Ryan Deel, Oakland County Probate Court judicial staff attorney. Each “Court Rules” seminar focused on a different Oakland County court. Judicial staff attorneys led off each seminar with an overview of pretrial matters and effective motion practice. The second part of each seminar consisted of a moderated panel of sitting judges discussing best practices in oral advocacy and the dos and don’ts of practicing in their courtrooms.
