The Law Offices of Jermaine A. Wyrick PLLC is pleased to announce that on Friday, April 28, attorney Jermaine A. Wyrick spoke as a panelist at the Detroit Public Schools Community District Foundation for Early Learners Development. The subject matter was "Fatherhood: Rights and Responsibilities." The event was for early Childhood Education for Pre-K Fathers to encourage them to become more involved in their children's lives beginning in pre-school. Wyrick graduated has practiced law since 1997 in various areas including criminal, family, personal injury, police misconduct, and probate. Wyrick has lectured in various places, including for the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law American Constitution Society, Lorman Education Services, the Northville Psychiatric Hospital, Continuing Medical Education program, and the Detroit Branch NAACP George W. Crockett Community Law School. Wyrick's awards include the Pepsi "Everyday Freedom Hero" Award; "Civil Rights and Education" United States Attorney's Office Black History Month Award, and the "Five under Ten" Award from the University of Michigan, African American Alumni Council; Who's Who in America, the Federal Bar Association, Pro Bono Project Award; Respect for Law, Optimist International; and an award from the Detroit Branch NAACP for Outstanding Leadership in Affirmative Action. - - - Southeast Michigan-based labor & employment attorneys Robert Boonin and James Hermon spoke at Institute of Continuing Legal Education's 42nd Annual Labor and Employment Law Institute which was held April 20-21 at The Inn at St. John's in Plymouth. Boonin, who is based in Dykema's Detroit and Ann Arbor offices, presented the "Fair Labor Standards Act Update" session and also served on a panel, "The Year in Review for Human Resources Professionals," which provided the audience with case studies on the Fair Labor Standards Act and other trending issues to explain how the latest court decisions are impacting human resources departments. Hermon, who is based in Dykema's Detroit office, presented the "Perceived Disability and Fitness for Duty" session which was designed to help the audience recognize and avoid claims for "perceived disability" discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act and properly address employee actions that create a safety risk to customers or colleagues. Attended by nearly 300 attorneys and HR professionals each year, the Annual Labor and Employment Law Institute is Michigan's premiere CLE program on labor and employment law. - - - Kostopoulos Rodriguez PLLC is excited to announce that Ryan C. Plecha has joined the firm as senior counsel in KORO's litigation practice group. Plecha's practice focuses on both civil and commercial litigation, which spans a wide range of substantive law from shareholder and contract disputes to antitrust matters. He has been involved in a variety of complex and high stakes matters throughout his career, including bet-the-company litigation and nationally significant cases. He has also served as local counsel for some of the nation's largest and most prestigious law firms. Prior to joining KORO, Plecha was a partner at a prestigious Birmingham litigation firm. Throughout his law school and legal career, Plecha has gained a unique set of experiences, including serving as a judicial intern for both Michigan Supreme Court Justice Robert Young and U.S. District Court Chief Judge Gerald E. Rosen, forming and operating Plecha Legal PLLC, and serving as a research and writing clerk for the Michigan Law Revision Commission. - - - Christopher D. Haboian has joined the Southfield office of Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss PC as an associate in the firm's real estate practice group. Jaffe CEO William Sider made the announcement. Haboian will concentrate his practice in the areas of commercial, industrial, retail, and residential real estate to private and institutional developers, builders, management companies, real estate brokers, and individuals. Prior to joining Jaffe, Haboian served as associate corporate counsel for The Cordish Companies in Baltimore. He worked on the leasing and development of casinos, hotels, shopping centers and sports-anchored projects with partners including the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and Comcast Spectacor. Haboian also worked on corporate structuring, project financing, and in-house needs like trademarks and compliance. Haboian graduated from Wake Forest University in North Carolina, and studied abroad at Temple University in Tokyo, Japan. He earned his law degree from the University of Maryland Carey School of Law in Baltimore. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and speaks working-level Japanese. - - - Robert Labe, a shareholder with Williams, Williams, Rattner, & Plunkett PC in Birmingham, has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
