Members of the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers (ISIAL) and the Catholic Lawyers Society turned out in force Saturday, May 13, to help Focus: HOPE. ISIAL members have lent a hand to Focus: HOPE since 1994, helping pack more than 75,000 boxes of food for the elderly in the Detroit community. Also on hand for the May 13 service day event were State Bar of Michigan President Lawrence Nolan, Judge Peter Deegan (retired) and Judge Jane Sullivan Colombo, who also are ISIAL members. “We participated in a brief orientation which covered the mission and history of Focus: HOPE in addition to a nod to Detroit’s Irish history through co-founder Father William T. Cunningham,” said Joseph McGill (pictured at far right), president of ISIAL and past president of the Catholic Lawyers Society. “We worked hand-in-hand with Focus: HOPE staff, running two assembly lines, packing boxes of items intended to supplement the dietary needs of the elderly in the neighborhoods surrounding the warehouse facility at 1300 Oakman Blvd. in Detroit. We all enjoyed a pizza lunch on site with the Focus: HOPE staff after the work was done, which was well earned and enjoyed by all.”
