Associations sponsor Drum Major for Justice Advocacy Competition

The D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, the Association of Black Judges of Michigan, and the Wolverine Bar Association co-sponsored the 25th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Advocacy Competition on Saturday, May 20, at the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at Wayne State University Law School in Detroit. Among those taking part in the competition were (front row, left to right) Wayne County 36th District Court Judge Demetria Brue, Oakland County 46th District Court Judge Debra Nance, finalist Payton Wells, finalist Dipita Das, finalist Miniya Williams, Wayne County 36th District Court Judge Austin Garrett, Wolverine President Jehan Crump-Gibson, Joline Davis, and Kim Ward; along with (back row, left to right) Straker President Kymberly Kinchen, Wayne County 36th District Court Judge Larry Williams, finalist Morgan Albert, finalist William Spraggins, Wayne County Probate Court Judge Terrance Keith, and Wayne County 36th District Court Judge David A. Perkins. The purpose of the competition is to promote oral advocacy among high school students and encourage them to develop and improve their analytical and writing skills.
