On Wednesday, July 19, the Oakland County Administration presented County Executive L. Brooks Patterson’s 3-year balanced budget recommendation for fiscal years 2018-2020 at the Oakland County Board of Commissioner’s evening board meeting.
“I applaud the leadership of County Executive L. Brooks Patterson for bringing forth another 3-year balanced budget,” stated Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell. “As the economy continues to improve, it’s critical that we focus on investing in our assets, our people and our programs that benefit taxpayers in Oakland County.”
The Board of Commissioners will continue their focus on fiscal matters as budget hearings with individual County departments begin on August 3rd. The Board of Commissioners’ Finance Committee has scheduled three days of budget hearings during the month of August. These meetings are open to the public and will be held in Committee Room A at 1200 N. Telegraph Road (Courthouse Building 12E) in Pontiac, Michigan. The schedule is as follows:

10:20 a.m. Circuit Court
10:40 a.m. Probate Court
11 a.m. Prosecutor’s Office
• Thursday, Aug. 17.
10 a.m. Treasurer’s Office
10:20 a.m. Water Resources Commissioner
10:40 a.m. Clerk’s Office
11 a.m. Sheriff’s Office
11:20 a.m. Parks and Recreation
11:40 a.m. County Executive
• Thursday, Aug. 31.
10 a.m. BOC/Library Board
“The budget hearings and Commission consideration are the culmination of an ongoing process throughout the year. We have a history of working with the administration and across party lines to adopt a sound fiscal plan and make wise choices for the long-term health of our County,” stated Commissioner Thomas F. Middleton, chair of the Finance Committee. “I am looking forward to continuing this tradition this year as the Finance Committee finalizes our three-year rolling balanced budget. In August we will begin budget hearings and continue to do our due diligence as this is one of the most important and demanding committee tasks that we are responsible for as Commissioners.”
“The budget hearings are an opportunity to discuss and determine funding for programs and services that should aim to improve the health and lives of Oakland County residents and families,” stated Commissioner Helaine Zack, minority vice chair of the Finance Committee. “These meetings are open to the public and I encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about the budget process in our County to attend.”
The nine (9) member Finance Committee is chaired by Oakland County Commissioner Tom Middleton (R) and includes Vice Chair Commissioner Eileen T. Kowall (R), Minority Vice Chair Commissioner Helaine M. Zack (D) and Commissioners Christine A. Long (R), Shelley Goodman Taub (R), Wade Fleming (R), Hugh D. Crawford (R), Dave Woodward (D) and David E. S. Bowman (D). The Finance Committee reviews and makes recommendations on the more than $800 million budget and all fiscal matters that come before the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.
