Judge Rosen wins Torch Award

Former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Gerald E. Rosen was honored with the 2017 Torch of Learning Award during a special ceremony Sept. 12 in Detroit. The event, hosted by the American Friends of the Hebrew University (AFHU) in Jerusalem, took place at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center, the home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. “This is like a second Bar Mitzvah for me, except all the checks are going to Hebrew University,” Rosen quipped upon accepting the award.

AFHU created the award, in the past presented to such luminaries as President Ronald Reagan and U.S. Senator Carl Levin, to “recognize esteemed individuals distinguished by their achievements in the field of law and who have influenced the course of higher education in the United States and Israel,” according to Beth McCoy, national executive director.
