Oakland County offers the best county government online experience in the United States according to the Center for Digital Government’s inaugural Government Experience Awards. The awards recognize the achievements and best practices of states, cities and counties that have gone to the web and beyond to radically improve the experience of government and push the boundaries of how citizen services are delivered.
“Oakland County’s IT Department continually innovates in order to improve services for our residents and businesses, collaborate in the cloud with other governments, and enhance our transparency,” Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. “This award reflects those efforts and the excellence of our IT staff.”
Dustin Haisler, chief innovation officer for the Center for Digital Government, said the top governments in the Government Experience Awards are delivering services across many digital platforms.
“Citizen expectations are increasingly being reshaped by their experiences with consumer technologies. The website is no longer the only experience they use – it’s now one of many channels in their overall experience,” Haisler said. “The Government Experience Awards were developed to recognize government agencies that are focusing on designing and delivering services across the overall experience and not necessarily just one channel.”
Oakland County offers government services not only at its website OakGov.com, but also on digital devices such as tablets and smartphones. It also collaborates in the cloud with other governments, providing access to innovative applications that help governments serve residents and businesses more efficiently through the G2G Marketplace (G2GMarket.com) and G2G Cloud Solutions (G2GCloud.com).
“Oakland County is on the leading edge of utilizing its digital space to deliver efficient and transparent services to residents and business,” said Phil Bertolini, deputy Oakland County executive and CIO. “The IT Department has transformed how Oakland County government thinks about what it means to serve its customers in the 21st Century.”
