Oakland County Homeland Security Division will host a National Weather Service Winter Spotter Training class Saturday, Oct. 21, in Waterford, County Executive L. Brooks Patterson announced this week.
“Storm spotters are part of our first line of defense in preparing for adverse weather conditions,” Patterson said. “This training class will enable us to add a number of individuals to our rolls who will alert the community to winter storm conditions.”
During the course, instructors from the National Weather Service will offer the 2017-2018 winter weather outlook; review the 2015-2016 winter season; teach spotters how to measure snowfall, estimate ice accumulation, and wind speeds; examine winter weather meteorology and climatology; go over guidelines and reporting procedures for winter weather spotters, and more.
The class will run from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Oakland County Executive Office Building Conference Center, 2100 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford. It is located on the northwest corner of Pontiac Lake and Telegraph roads.
