First Lt. Kevin Rod, Michigan State Police Jackson Post Commander, poses with a 100th Anniversary car in front of the Jackson Post. Fifty special edition black patrol cars with gold striping and a 100th Anniversary door shield joined the MSP patrol fleet this year in honor of the MSP’s 100th Anniversary. Each of the 30 MSP Posts received at least one of these fully equipped 2016 Dodge Chargers to use on patrol or at community events. The cars are painted to resemble a 1937 Ford Model 74 patrol car, one of the MSP’s first patrol cars and the oldest vehicle in its historical fleet. The original cars, used until 1954, had a siren that ran off the fan belt and the radio was ‘receive only.’
