Royal salute

A retirement reception in honor of Michael J. Talbot (second from left), chief judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals, was held April 13 at the University of Detroit School of Law, his alma mater. Talbot, an alumnus of Georgetown University, is scheduled to retire later this month, capping a distinguished 40-year career on the bench. Appointed to the Court of Appeals in 1998, Talbot formerly served as a judge in the Wayne County Circuit Court and the Detroit Common Pleas Court, now known as the 36th District Court. A former member of the Judicial Tenure Commission, Talbot served as the special judicial administrator over the 36th District Court in 2013-14, helping restructure its operations. He will serve as the commencement speaker at the law school’s graduation ceremony on May 11. Pictured with Talbot at the reception were (left to right) Michigan Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Clement, Detroit Mercy Law Dean Phyllis Crocker, and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Kurtis Wilder.
