Justice Clement to celebrate Constitution Day at law school

In honor of Constitution Day, Monday, Sept. 17, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Clement will speak at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus. Clement’s presentation, “The Constitution and the Rule of Law,” will focus on the importance of the basic foundational premise for the laws of the land.  The Constitution Day celebration at WMU-Cooley is free and open to the public.

“In today’s world, it has become even more important to openly discuss the Constitution and the laws of our great nation,” said WMU-Cooley Assistant Dean Lisa Halushka. “It is an honor for our students to have an opportunity to hold dialogue with Justice Clement and gain additional knowledge about our justice system.”

Clement joined the Michigan Supreme Court in 2017, becoming the 113th Justice and the 11th woman to serve on the bench. Before her appointment by Governor Rick Snyder, she served as chief legal counsel for the governor, advising him on a wide variety of legal, legislative, and policy matters. Before going into the public service, Clement owned and operated Clement Law PLLC, from 2002 to 2006, where she represented individuals and businesses primarily in the areas of family law, adoption, probate, estate planning, and criminal law.

The presentation will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the WMU-Cooley Law School, Auburn Hills campus, room 145, 2630 Featherstone Road.

Individuals interested in attending should register by emailing tempah1@cooley.edu.
