The Oakland County Bar association will present “Appeals in the Juvenile Arena” on Thursday, Feb. 14, from 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m. at the OCBA offices in Bloomfield Hills.
Attendees can bring a lunch and join for in-depth discussions of hot topics, emerging issues, and practice pointers in juvenile law. The seminar is worth 1.5 credits for attorneys accepting juvenile appointments.
Appeals in juvenile cases are not uncommon. Juvenile attorneys must concentrate on winning their case at trial while at the same time ensuring the case can go to an appeals court if necessary.
Topics of discussion will include:
• Recognizing and anticipating problems with a case
• Making timely objections
• The rules of evidence - what's appealable and what's not
Speaking at the program will be Melinda N. Deel of Melinda N. Deel PLLC.
Cost for the seminar for OCBA members is $12 pre-registration or $25 at the door; non-members pay $25 pre-registration or $40 at the door. Court appointed attorneys can attend for free.
